Apple Maps was a

difficult product, subjected to enormous criticism (and deserved) and became one of the reasons for leaving the senior vice president of iOS Scott Forstalla. Nevertheless, Apple was able to bring it to a good level, and continues to do so now, acquiring useful company and hiring the necessary personnel.
The next useful investment of available funds for Apple was the company Coherent Navigation, whose headquarters is located in San Francisco, USA. This small but very high-spirited startup, founded in 2008, specializes in the creation of commercial navigation services high precision. In his work he is actively cooperating with the largest satellite network operators and other companies in this field, including Boeing and Iridium. Among the major projects listed Coherent Navigation GPS-receivers High Integrity, which combines the signals from the satellites flying at low and medium Earth orbit. The result of this approach was greatly improved the accuracy and quality of satellite navigation.
Details of the deal have not been disclosed, but the official website of the company is already closed, and the heads of Coherent Navigation updated their profiles on LinkedIn. So, chief executive Paul Lego said that the team is part of the Apple Maps, and co-founders William Bence and Brett Ledvina got an engineer for navigation.
This is not the first purchase Apple to support its mapping service from the time of failure of Google Maps in 2012. As examples Topsy Labs, Locationary and Hopstop, Spotsetter. In addition, for a long time, rumors circulated that the US company is a potential customer division HERE Maps, owned by Nokia.
